Snorkel type boom tube welders have the following advantages

• Less expensive to build than a similar size chain type machine
• Snorkel doesn’t have as many parts to wear out and need replaced
• Snorkel type is less expensive and easier for maintenance
• If a snorkel is accidentally crashed it is less likely to suffer damage, and if is damaged it will most likely be less expensive to repair.

Snorkel type boom welders have the following disadvantages

• A chain type boom welder with inside weld designed to weld a 40’ long boom section is approximately 65’ long, a snorkel style would be approximately 130’ long requiring twice as much floor space as the chain type boom welder.
• A snorkel type machine without inside weld for the same size booms would measure approximately 95’ long, still 30’ longer than the chain type that includes inside weld.
